IASTM TECHNIQUE

Chiropractic Armstrong IA Graston Technique

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), also known as Graston, FAKTR, scraping, etc; this treatment enables our Algona IA and Armstong IA clinicians to use their skills to effectively break down fascial restrictions, adhesions, and scar tissue. This technique uses a series of specialized instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis and chronic inflammation.

Treatment Indications for IASTM

  • Tendonitis (Tennis/golfer’s elbow)
  • Sprain/Strain injuries
  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Scar tissue
  • Knee Pain
  • IT Band
  • Trigger finger
  • Shin Splints
  • Plantar fasciitis

Treatment Contraindications

  • Open Wounds
  • Taking blood thinners/high blood pressure
  • Cancer
  • Fractures

What is Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)?

This technique consists of several stainless-steel instruments that have curvilinear edges, with a concave/convex design consisting of various shapes and sizes to mold to the contours of the body. This design allows for ease of use for the clinician and allows for maximum tissue penetration. The configuration of the instrument’s acts much like a tuning fork that resonates and amplifies in the clinician’s hand to locate and isolate adhesions and restrictions and allows for a more precise treatment.
